|Pilot Learnership Programme|
The ten Johannesburg graduates from the pilot are as follows:
Of the ten graduates, three have permanent jobs, two more are working regularly as freelancers, two others have applied for additional training with a view to moving towards production, and the remaining three are getting intermittent freelance work.
All the Johannesburg graduates passed all the courses, including the forklift driver’s licence – no mean feat for those who had never been on a forklift before, and although the courses were fairly fundamental, the learners report a better understanding of the industry as a whole as well as more confidence in their own abilities.
Those who have employed the learners are delighted by their enthusiasm, quick grasp and insight. The project is moving forward with a proposal tabled with the Creative Industries Skills Development Programme for the development and pilot of a full learnership to be registered with the Department of Labour by the end of the year.
